Flint ignites the passion that fuels kids’ fire for STEM
We bring STEM to life using real-world, emerging tech, like drones, high-end virtual reality, 3-D printing pens and snap circuitry – NOT popsicle sticks or egg drops like some other camps. Your child will get extraordinary hands-on experiences with cutting edge equipment, and exposure to the tech and STEM concepts actually used by professionals in science, technology, engineering and math. It’s incredible fun combined with activities that will keep your child’s brain growing and spark curiosity and interest for future academic and career paths in STEM.
It’s a week-long camp (Monday-Friday), with students entering 5th-6th grades in the morning session (8am – noon) and those entering 7th-8th grades in the afternoon session (1pm – 5pm). Each day, students rotate between these activities:
Drone – Campers explore some of the latest tech advances with a high-end drone (Focus: Aerospace Engineering/Electrical Engineering/Technology)
Remote Control Racecar – They explore electrical vehicles. Can they build an alternator and race their car the fastest? (Focus: Electrical/Mechanical Engineering)
pi-top – Hands-on experience with computer hardware and software (Focus: Electrical/Mechanical Engineering)
Because Learning! Sensor Kits – Kids get their hands on some hardware, write some code and conduct experiments using microcontrollers! (Focus: New Technology)
3-D Printed Bridges – They compete to see who can build the strongest bridge with a handheld 3-D printer! (Focus: Civil Engineering/Technology)
Virtual Reality – Campers explore VR with a PlayStation 4 with VR headset (Focus: New Technology)
Water Balloon Slingshot – The kids use science and technology to get the instructors soaking wet! (Focus: Physics/Technology)
Summer Snow – Students use science to create snow in the middle of summer! (Focus: Chemistry)
Movie Day - After learning the science behind popping popcorn, campers will watch “October Sky.” (Focus: Physics/Chemistry/Propulsion/Math.) After the movie they can select tech activities from earlier in the week and spend more time with them.
